Day One Feels Like Camping. Day Four Doesn't.
The power goes out. Day one, day two, it almost feels like an adventure. Then around day four the adventure is over. The freezer has thawed, the phones are dead, and you turn the kitchen tap and nothing comes out.
So here’s the question worth sitting with: if the grid went down tonight and stayed down, where would your water come from on day four? Your heat? Your next meal?
That’s what this free hour is for. Calm, practical, and built for real life on a budget, starting right where you are.
What You'll Walk Away With
One hour, no fluff, and a plan you can actually start this week.
- What a grid-down event or EMP really is, in plain English, from a Congressman who studied this exact threat for our country and went off-grid himself.
- Why protecting your own gear isn’t the real answer. Even with your lights on, when the grid is down everywhere else the fuel, the trucks, and the store shelves go with it in a matter of days.
- The four systems that decide whether your family is okay: water, heat, food, and power. Each one with a simple first move for in-town homes and for acreage.
- The one backup-power move that turns two weeks of fuel into months, so you quit overspending on the wrong setup.
- A simple way to find your single weakest link, the thing that fails first, so your next dollar and next weekend go where they matter most.
- One step you can take this week, wherever you live right now and however handy you are.
This Isn't Science Fiction. It's Already Happened.
In 1989, a solar storm collapsed an entire power grid in about 90 seconds and left millions of people in the dark. No bomb, no enemy, just a bad day of space weather. In 1859, the largest geomagnetic storm on record threw sparks off the telegraph lines. Run that same storm through today’s world of electronics and it is a very different story.
A Lloyd’s of London report calls a storm like that almost inevitable eventually, and warns it could leave tens of millions of Americans without power for weeks, months, or longer. The giant transformers that run our grid are mostly built overseas, with lead times measured in years. A serious outage would not simply flip back on.
None of that means the sky is falling. It means the systems we lean on are more fragile than we like to admit, and the families who quietly get ready are the ones who sleep fine when the lights flicker.
Who This Class Is For
This is for regular families, not full-time homesteaders. You belong here if:
- You’re in town, the suburbs, or renting, and you’ve wondered if any of this even applies to you. It does, and we’ll show you how.
- You’re on a few acres and want to close the gaps you already know are there.
- You’re on a fixed income and can’t afford to waste money on the wrong gear.
- You’re not especially handy, and you want plain steps instead of a big project.
- You’re tired of vague worry, and you want one clear thing to do next.
Why Listen To Us
We’re Nick and Lisa Meissner. We live off-grid in the mountains of north Idaho, our own water, our own power, and wood heat, with a garden and animals, and we’ve been at it about twenty-five years. The part people don’t expect: we both grew up in town. So if you’re looking at a city lot or an apartment wondering where to even start, that was us once too.
We’ve spent years studying what happens to ordinary families when the grid goes down, including sitting down with the Congressman who chaired our country’s EMP commission and then went off-grid himself.
We’re not selling fear, and we’re not preppers in the scary sense. We’re a Christian family that sees being ready as simple, wise stewardship, taking care of the people God gave us to take care of. That’s the heart behind this class.
