Should Christians prepare, or just trust God?

A lot of good Christians feel pulled in two directions. One side says trust God, He will provide. The other says you had better get ready, because things are unstable. So which is it?

Scripture does not make you choose. “The horse is prepared against the day of battle, but safety is of the Lord” (Proverbs 21:31, NKJV). We do everything we can, then we trust God for what we cannot.

The trouble is, almost everything your family needs (water, food, heat, and power) now runs through systems you do not own and cannot control. When those get squeezed, trusting God while doing nothing leaves your family exposed, and preparing without faith just leaves you anxious. On this class, we will show you how to hold both.

The biblical framework we will walk through

We call it Sustainable Preparedness. Three simple steps, drawn straight from Scripture.

1. See the storm and get out of its way

Where you live matters. We will look at what the Bible says about safer places, and what that means whether you are rural, in a suburb, or still in town.

2. Change your lifestyle, not just your zip code

Moving is not enough. We will cover what it looks like to stop depending on fragile corporate systems for your basic necessities, starting right where you are.

3. Prepare to share

This is not only about you and yours. You cannot hand someone a bowl of soup while you are standing in the soup line. Get ready to be a help, not a burden.

What you will walk away with

  • The biblical difference between preparation and presumption, and why that line matters more now than ever.
  • Why “just trust God” and “just prepare” are both half-answers, and the faith-plus-works pattern Scripture actually models.
  • The three-step Sustainable Preparedness framework, drawn straight from the Bible.
  • Your first practical steps toward water, food, heat, and power independence, wherever you live today.
  • How to get ready not just to protect your own family, but to be a blessing to others when hard times come.

This class is for you if...

  • You are a Christian who senses things are unstable and wants to be ready without living in fear.
  • You are already on rural land and building, but you know you still have gaps.
  • You are in town, in a suburb, or renting, and you wonder if any of this even applies to you. It does.
  • You are somewhere in between, praying and planning a move, but you are not there yet.
  • You are tired of scattered information and just want a clear path and a next right step.

Wherever you are right now, this plan applies to you. You do not have to wait for perfect conditions to begin.

homestead podcast off grid lifestyle independent north idaho meissner nick lisa the ready life into the country

Your hosts, Nick and Lisa Meissner

Nick carved out an off-grid homestead deep in the mountains of Idaho 25 years ago, completely off the power grid, and he has lived that way ever since. He and Lisa are raising their family the same way.

About 20 years ago, folks started asking them to teach what they had learned. Since then they have led country living seminars at hundreds of churches coast to coast, produced over a hundred hours of hands-on training, and now serve many thousands of families through The Ready Life.

From the beginning, God’s Word has been our north star, on the spiritual life and the practical one alike.
